Hon. Mark I. Partnow’s judicial career began in 2002 when he was elected as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. During his first year serving in the County of Kings, he sat in the Criminal Term of the Supreme Court and also handled civil cases. In 2004 he was transferred to the Civil Term where he presided over thousands of cases pending there. Having retired from the bench in December 2023, Justice Partnow is now a Senior Partner at Liakas Law, P.C. where he will be able to continue to spend quality time in the courts, advocating every day for justice for those who have suffered.
Prior to becoming a Justice of the Supreme Court, Hon. Partnow served as Principal Law Clerk to two distinguished Supreme Court Justices, the late Hon. Richard J. Goldman and Hon. David B. Vaughan.
Hon. Partnow is a Brooklyn native and a product of the New York City Public School System. He received his B.A degree as a political science major from Brooklyn College in June 1975, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He received his J.D degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in June 1979.
Hon. Partnow has always been active in civic, charitable, and professional organizations. He has served as Vice President of B’nai B’rith, Vice Chairman of Community Board 18, Treasurer of the Canarsie Neighborhood Development Corp, Vice President of the Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club, founding member of the Canarsie Volunteer Ambulance Corp., Trustee of Temple Sholom, active member of the Bergen Beach Civic Association, Volunteer Arbitrator of the Small Claims Court of the Civil Court, fundraiser for both Pals for Palsy (a subsidiary of United Cerebral Palsy) and the Adult Retardate Centers. Hon. Partnow has been involved in youth sports in Brooklyn having served as manager and coach at the Bergen Beach Youth Organization and Amity Little League. Hon. Partnow is a long-time member of the Brooklyn Bar Association and serves as co-chair of its Supreme Court Committee. He is a member of the Colombian Lawyers Association of Brooklyn. He is a founding member and sits on the board of directors of the Brooklyn Brandeis Society. Hon. Partnow has been appointed Special Master in a complex commercial litigation case.
Hon. Partnow has received many awards and honors, most notably the Ecumenical Award from the Catholic Lawyers Guild Diocese of Brooklyn, Kings County Chapter.
