Former Congressman Edolphus “Ed” Towns served in the United States House of Representatives championing the people of New York for 30 years. Mr. Towns served on the Energy and Commerce Committee, and on three subcommittees: Health; Communications, Technology and the Internet; and Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade. He was also the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Government Organization, Efficiency and Financial Management on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform—the committee he chaired during the 111th Congress.

An ordained minister and professional social worker, Mr. Towns founded and chaired the Congressional Social Work Caucus and was actively engaged in several Congressional Caucuses including the Congressional Black Caucus which he chaired in 1991, the Congressional Caribbean Caucus, the Congressional Urban Caucus, the Congressional Mental Health Caucus, and the Congressional Labor and Working Families Caucus.

To this day, Mr. Towns remains an active proponent of the causes he championed during his years in Congress. He joined Liakas Law, P.C. as a Senior Advisor in March of this year and dedicates time to accomplishing the Firm’s mission of Community uplift and advocacy. He also serves on the Board of Directors at several esteemed institutions including, but not limited to, World Business Lenders, New York Theological Seminary, Gotham Healthcare, and the 5 Towns YMCA in Brooklyn, NY.

Mr. Towns received his Master in Social Work (MSW) degree from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York and a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina and is the recipient of ten honorary doctoral degrees. He is married to Gwen Forbes-Towns for more than half a century and they have two children, Darryl and Deidra.
