Ali Najmi is Special Counsel at Liakas Law, where he represents clients in civil rights, police and corrections misconduct, and construction injury litigation.

A seasoned New York litigator and recognized political strategist, Ali has earned a reputation as a forceful courtroom advocate and trusted advisor to community leaders, labor organizations, and elected officials across New York City and State. His practice bridges the worlds of law, government, and policy—bringing strategic judgment, media fluency, and a deep understanding of how power operates in New York.

At Liakas Law, Ali handles complex Section 1983 civil-rights cases, police and corrections abuse claims, and catastrophic construction injury actions under New York Labor Law §§ 200, 240(1), and 241(6). His clients include individuals and families facing life-altering harm caused by state misconduct or unsafe workplaces.

In addition to his trial work, Ali is recognized as one of New York’s most astute legal strategists in the political world. He currently serves as Political Director of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) and is a co-founder of the Muslim Democratic Club of New York (MDCNY) and the co-founder of the South Asian Indo-Caribbean Bar Association of Queens (SAICBA-Q).

Through these leadership roles, Ali has advised dozens of campaigns, candidates, and advocacy organizations on matters of ballot access, campaign compliance, ethics, and strategy—helping shape the city’s progressive political landscape. The New York Times  has described him as a “political confidant” to rising leaders, while amNY wrote that “he has been getting ever-closer to the city’s levers of power over the past decade or so.”

Ali’s rare combination of courtroom skill and political judgment makes him a go-to figure in matters that demand both legal expertise and strategic foresight.

A lifelong advocate for working-class New Yorkers, Ali has been deeply involved in issues of labor and economic justice. He was appointed by the Public Advocate to the NYC Medallion Task Force, where he helped shape reforms to address the taxi-medallion debt crisis, and continues to counsel members of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) on legal matters.

His work is rooted in a simple conviction: that fairness, dignity, and opportunity should extend to every New Yorker—on the street, on the job, and in the justice system.

Ali continues to lead The Law Office of Ali Najmi (Najmi Law), where he maintains his independent election-law and criminal-law practices. Through Najmi Law, he represents candidates, campaigns, and political committees in ballot-access, recount, and compliance matters, and individuals facing criminal charges in state and federal court.
