Shanayé Sweet, Esq. is a trial associate at Liakas Law firm, where she focuses on trial preparation. She is dedicated to providing strategic legal counsel and personalized representation to individuals facing negligence. Just a month after joining the firm, Ms. Sweet secured over $800,000 settlement on the morning of jury selection.
Before joining the firm, Ms. Sweet worked as a court attorney for over seven years in the New York State Unified Court System under the Hon. Ingrid Joseph before working under Hon. Kim M. Parker. Her experience includes a wide range of civil law practice, including, foreclosure, labor law, premise liability, motor vehicle accidents, serious injury threshold, quiet title, ejections, fraudulent conveyance, small claims, commercial and residential landlord/tenant law, consumer debt, guardianships and civil trials. Ms. Sweet’s experience also includes criminal law, specifically, felony crimes such as manslaughter, larceny, negligent homicide, assault, criminal weapon possession, controlled substance possession, robbery, burglary, kidnapping, arson, and criminal trials. While serving as a court attorney in Bronx Criminal Supreme Court she drafted numerous decisions for pretrial motions such as, 190.50 motions, omnibus and pre-trial suppression motions, speedy trial CPL 30.30 and 180.80 motions, and post-conviction 440 motions.
Ms. Sweet earned her J.D. from New York Law School, where she was a member of the NYLS Moot Court Association and was a part of the team who placed first in the regional round of the 68th Annual National Moot Court Competition. In addition to Ms. Sweet’s legal career, she has been invited to speak at New York City Public High Schools’ career days and on panels at her alma mater John Jay College of Criminal Justice’s. Ms. Sweet remains active at both her undergrad and law school.
